History, Manufacture and Benefits History, Manufacture and Benefits

For a better information, the Cassiopeia Boutique suggests you to discover through these lines:
    • The history of the "Famous Marseille soap", its manufacturing, its benefits.
    • what is a natural vegetable oil and its mode of manufacture.
    • process of extraction of plants to obtain this invaluable essential oil.

THE HISTORY OF THE "FAMOUS MARSEILLE SOAP"

It is in Mesopotamia, 2 500 years before JC, that we find the first tracks of the existence of the soap, there was then a soft soap consisted of fatty oil associated with vegetable ashes.

With the time, and thanks to the crusaders who brought it back in the West, this soap spread through the Mediterranean Basin, through Italy and Spain, to reach Marseille, the soap of which is the lineal heir.

It is in Gaul that we find the first recipes of soap and it is in the XIVth century when appears the first official Marseilles Soap maker, his name is Crescas Davin ( 1371 ).

From the XVth century, the home-made stage for the local needs is exceeded, and Marseille sees the first industrial soap factories appearing for production intended for Rhodes, Alexandria and Geneva.

The XVIth century sees the techniques perfecting notably thanks to specialist's hired in all the Mediterranean Sea, more qualified than the French workforce.

It is in the XVIIth century when the Marseille soap acquires the fame which it won't lose any more.

The soap is not only used any more as detergent or as a toilet item, but also as pharmaceutical ingredient. The famous indication " Extra Pure 72 % comes ".

Since the 1960s, the soap industry diversified its products with the appearance of liquid soaps and concentrated products.

Even if it got modernized with regard to the ancient processes in the ladle and in the cauldron, the manufacturing of our soaps, heir of about 400 years of history, remains still home-made and manual.

    OUR VEGETABLE PRECIOUS OILS

They are obtained from the extraction of the oil of seeds or kernels by pressure or by pummeling.

But first of all, the preparation of seeds or kernels plays a very important role in the quality of the oil. This stage is intended to facilitate the extraction of the oil. Seeds or kernels are sorted out first of all to eliminate those which are damaged. They then undergo a dust removal in order to eliminate every foreign body.

It's divided into 3 steps: the sieving, the brushing and the suction.

There are several processes of pressure which have all a home-made and natural connotation.

This physical process of grinding is made with a mechanical press with 2 screws. The first screw drives the seeds or kernels towards a drilled cylinder and the second allows the grinding.

This oil going through the cylinder is a first cold pressure oil.

    OUR ESSENTIAL OILS

The essential oil is a ethereal liquid substance, nice-smelling and volatile produced by certain plants characterized by their fragrant and perfumed principles.

It can be extracted by two manners: by cold pressure, by steam distillation.

This second traditional method is very used to extract essential oil intended for the aromatherapy because if it is well led it gives a high quality essential oil having kept all of these active principles because of the reasonable heating.
